Abstract(s)
The present study aimed to observe the evolution of Dental Medicine in the digital age with the revolution of three-dimensional technology and dental scanning, new facial and dental studies have shown diagnostic accuracy during interventions. The technological progress that occurs in several fields of science has made possible the application also in the area of dentistry. Technology combined with dental treatments aims to optimize procedures, the search for treatment methods that combine aesthetics, durability, ease of execution and time savings, both for the professional and the patient. It has been a reality for more than 30 years in dentistry. In dentistry, as in other professions, digital alternatives to existing work practices emerge continuously. New digital technologies are already ubiquitous in many aspects of the dental workflow. This monograph intends to carry out a brief review of the literature based on the descriptors dentistry, dentistry and digital age, in the database being the repository Egas Moniz, Internet sources, PubMed. However, it requires constant technological knowledge from the professional, updating on aesthetic standards and due understanding of the patient's expectations. The digital age in dentistry is increasingly present in dental offices and dental laboratories and as a consequence, most rehabilitation treatments can or are planned and executed digitally from start to finish. Technologies such as digital radiography, cone bean tomography, intraoral cameras, digital photography, microscope and mouth scanners assist in planning and equipment such as milling machines, 3D printers, bench scanners guided the laboratory technical work. The general evaluation of the consulted bibliography allowed us to conclude that the technological advance proposed in the Digital Era is inevitable. The Dentist must adhere to the various forms of technology available to not only use them as a diagnostic method, but mainly, in all treatment planning.
