Abstract(s)
A relação entre a competência motora (CM) e o desempenho cognitivo (DC) tem suscitado muito interesse na comunidade científica. Este estudo tem como principal objetivo estabelecer uma relação entre a CM, o IMC e o DC em crianças do 2.º ano do 1.º Ciclo de Ensino Básico (CEB). O número de participantes no estudo corresponde a 17 crianças (n= 17), oito do sexo feminino e nove do sexo masculino, com idades compreendidas entre os sete e os oito anos de idade (7,29 ± 0,47 anos). Este estudo procurou correlacionar a CM, medida através da bateria de testes Motor Competence Assessment (MCA), o Índice de Massa Corporal (IMC) e o DC, medido através das fichas de avaliação no 3.º período do ano letivo 2023/2024. Não foram encontradas associações estatisticamente significativas entre a CM e o DC. Foi encontrada uma correlação negativa entre o IMC e o shuttle run (ρ = -0,504; p <0,05) e, também, correlações positivas entre as três componentes do currículo (Português e Matemática: ρ = 0,625; p <0,05; Português e Estudo do Meio; ρ = 0,749; p <0,05; Matemática e Estudo do Meio: ρ = 0,522; p <0,05). Apesar de os resultados não serem estatisticamente significativos, existem algumas tendências que permitem afirmar que os alunos com IMC mais elevado levam mais tempo a executar o shuttle run e os alunos com melhores resultados numa componente do currículo, terão também bons resultados nas restantes.
The relationship between motor competence (MC) and cognitive performance (CP) has raised much interest and provided numerous studies. In this regard, this study has the main objective to establish the relationship between MC, Body Mass Index (BMI) and CP in children at elementary school. The sample of this study corresponds to 17 children (n=17), eight females and nine males, with age between seven and eight years old (7,29 ± 0,47 anos). For this study we use the battery tests like Motor Competence Assessment (MCA), the BMI and the evaluation of CP measured through assessment forms in third period of the 2023/2024 academic year. The results obtained were not statistically significant, yet a negative correlation was found between the BMI and shuttle run (ρ = -0,504; p <0,05), and also positive correlations between three components of curriculum (Portuguese and Mathematics: ρ =0,625; p <0,05; Portuguese and Social Environment Studies; ρ = 0,749; p <0,05; Mathematics and Social Environment Studies: ρ = 0,522; p <0,05). Despite the not statistically significant results, there were some significant trends that allow us to infer that students with higher BMI take longer to perform the shuttle run, and students with better results in one component of the curriculum will also have good results in the others.
