cirúrgica (90,6%) e aumentar a confiança (78,1%).
Abstract: The present work is a result of the Intervention Project performed in the context of an Internship in order to obtain the Master degree in Perioperative Nursing, from the School of Health Care (ESS), of the Setúbal Polytechnic Institute (IPS). Surgery's expectation is known to be a cause for anxiety, fear, doubts and other emotional reactions on the surgical client, thus the POV must be interpreted as the Perioperative Nursing intervention that best suits the needs of the clients who experience this transition. This is the opportune moment for the client to express his doubts, feelings and fears, allowing the Nurse to individualize perioperative care. Initially, it was performed a Systematic Review of the Literature on the importance of Nursing POV in order to determine the importance of conducting the POV in adult clients undergoing elective surgery. The evidence of the benefits that the POV provides to surgical clients, Nurses and the Service/Institution itself, aroused us the curiosity to deepen knowledge about this topic, whose objective was to determine the importance of POV for clients undergoing elective surgery. The study performed with basis on the Project's Methodology sought to assess the satisfaction of the surgical clients regarding the POV, allowing a continuous improvement of Nursing care quality. The preparation of a booklet to provide to the client at the time of POV was also found relevant. A questionnaire was elaborated and applied to the clients and, as main conclusions, we highlight that, on the course of POV the clients are very satisfied with: privacy (62,5%), comfort (90,6%), how information was transmitted (84,4%), availability for expressing concerns (84,4%), for clarifying doubts (78,1%) and with the booklet that was handed to them (87,5%). Clients assumed that POV contributed to decrease anxiety (71,9%), fears and misgiving (56,3%), concerns (59,4%), clarify doubts regarding the surgical preparation (90,6%) and increase confidence (78,1%). Clients considered that POV is an important moment for those who will be submitted to surgery and that the information offered during the POV corresponded to what happened in reality. We conclude that 87,5% of the clients are very satisfied with the POV. Considering the gains that POV brings to the field of health, with this project it is intended that this nursing intervention can be seen as the one that best meets the needs of clients.
