A atual postura agressiva da Rússia tem originado sentimentos diversos nos países da União Europeia. Tendo perdido a sua influência desde o colapso da União Soviética, a Rússia está disposta a usar todos os instrumentos do seu poder nacional, incluindo o militar, para recuperar o estatuto de superpotência mundial. A expansão da NATO e da União Europeia a Leste é vista como um obstáculo para a consecução deste objetivo. Pretendeu-se com este estudo identificar os objetivos e as linhas de ação estratégicas russas, analisar a sua estratégia militar, as respostas da NATO e da União Europeia, e dos países desta última organização, face à estratégia militar russa. O estudo recorreu à bibliografia sobre esta temática, a artigos de opinião, e ainda a entrevistas e a inquéritos por questionário, a académicos e a militares especialistas nesta matéria. Da investigação realizada, concluiu-se que, o grande impacto na defesa dos países da União Europeia, face à estratégia militar russa, é a necessidade desses países reforçarem a sua capacidade militar de forma credível, e fomentarem uma maior cooperação entre eles e entre a organização a que pertencem e a NATO. Simultaneamente, haverá que convencer a Rússia que ninguém, do Ocidente, quer “entrar” em Moscovo. Abstract: The current Russian’s aggressive stance, has led to different feelings in the European Union countries. Having lost its influence since the collapse of the Soviet Union, Russia is ready to use all instruments of its national power, military included, to regain superpower status. The expansion of NATO and European Union to the East, is seen as an obstacle to achieving this goal. The aim of this study is to identify the Russian’s objectives and its strategic lines of action, to analyze its military strategy, the responses of NATO and the European Union, and the countries of the latter organization, given the Russian military strategy. The study turned to the literature on this subject, opinion articles, and also to interviews and questionnaire surveys to academics and military experts in this field. Of the research, it was concluded that the major impact on the European Union countries’ defence, in response to Russian military strategy, is the need for these countries to strengthen their military capabilities in a credible way, and foster greater cooperation between them, and between the organization to which they belong and NATO. Simultaneously, there will be to convince Russia that nobody in the West wants to "step into" Moscow.
