| dc.description.abstract | Este estudo centra-se na temática de Cabo Verde, antiga colónia de Portugal, no decurso da Segunda Guerra Mundial. Nesta dissertação, pretendo retratar alguns assuntos menos estudados ou que ainda não se encontram estudados de Cabo Verde no panorama da História de Portugal do século XX. Fará parte deste estudo a importância geoestratégica da Colónia no decorrer da última guerra mundial, bem como diversas outras temáticas que foram importantes para Portugal e Cabo Verde no decurso da mesma. Entre as temáticas estudadas, está toda a componente da defesa, que nesta dissertação se apresenta, tendo um carácter totalmente inédito até ao momento, uma vez que estes assuntos não constam ainda em nenhum outro trabalho. O meu objetivo foi estudar e aprofundar este tema uma vez que, todos os assuntos desconhecidos da nossa História merecem e devem ser estudados para que melhor possamos compreender o decorrer da atuação portuguesa neste contexto da Segunda Guerra Mundial. O estudo da defesa da colónia de Cabo Verde foca-se, essencialmente, na ilha de São Vicente, porque nesta ilha se encontra o melhor porto natural de todo o arquipélago, o Porto Grande da cidade do Mindelo. Serão abordados os meios próprios que a ilha tinha, o que necessitavam para fazer frente ao conflito, o envolvimento da Marinha em Cabo Verde e, os meios, bem como a sua evolução e empenho, na defesa do Porto Grande da ilha de São Vicente. Este será o ponto principal deste projeto. A par destas aproximações, relatarei também alguns acontecimentos e considerações sobre as ilhas, não só respeitante a São Vicente, mas também outras que considero importantes, sendo pertinente o seu estudo, durante o panorama instaurado no decorrer do conflito. Estes outros assuntos também contemplam ainda algum desconhecimento, no entanto, tentei sempre, aprofundar o que até ao momento se havia estudado. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | This study focuses on the former Portuguese Colony, Cape Verde, during the Second World War. This dissertation intends to portray some subjects that haven’t yet been studied about Cape Verde in the panorama of Portugal’s History during the XX century. Part of this study will address the geostrategic importance of the Colony during the II World War, as well as several other themes that were important for Portugal and Cape Verde during the conflict. Among the studied themes, the whole component of defense presented throughout this research work has an entirely unknown character so far, which can be confirmed once there are no studies regarding it. This dissertation’s main goal was to study and develop the defense topic since it is still an unknown part of our history. These matters need and deserve to be studied to better understand the Portuguese action in the context of the Second World War. The study of Cape Verde’s defense focuses essentially on São Vicente’s island owing to the fact this island has the best natural harbor of all the archipelago, the Porto Grande in Mindelo’s city. It’ll be addressed the means the island had in its possession, the needs required to face the conflict, the Navy’s involvement and both the means and its evolution and commitment to the defense of Porto Grande of São Vicente. This will be the main topic of this project. In addition to these concepts, I will report some events and considerations about the islands, not only about São. Vincente, but also others considered important and relevant to study during the panorama established throughout the conflict. These other topics still reflect some unfamiliarity nevertheless, I will always try to deepen what had been studied so far | pt_PT |
