Abstract(s)
Abstract This thesis develops an investigation related to the needs and importance of Simulation resources within the training for the soldiers of the Portuguese Cavalry. The methodological process of the problem consisted on the elaboration of a starting point question aimed at recalling clarity, executability and pertinency for the subject. Quantitative and qualitative analysis of cost/proficiency variables was carried out within national territory as well as a field investigation in Spain, where we employed techniques of bibliographic collection and interviews. The most significant results allow a scarce frequency of real shooting practice for all weapon systems in question, in the last two years. From the analysis useful conclusions were selected. In opposition to other armies which use of Simulation to increase savings instead of real training, the Portuguese Cavalry corrently only justifies the use of Simulation with the need to ensure the minimal proficiency of their soldiers. So the Portuguese Cavalry can not justify its investment with the expected savings from the skipped real training.
