Abstract(s)
Saliva is one of the most important body fluids for the well-functioning of human body functioning which enables several crucial functions to keep the maintenance of the homeostasis and optimization of oral health, and the same time promoting a quality of life associates with oral health. The main role of salivary glands is to produce saliva and when in absence, derived dysfunction of the salivary glands will compromise the salivar flow leading to xerostomia or hypossilia. Xerostomia is defined as subjective symptom of dry mouth, and the prevalence in worldwide population ranges from 5.5 to 46%, which the main cause is associated of the consumption of several medication and the abuse of chronic drugs. Currently, there are several therapeutic options for the treatment of xerostomia and the use application of a topical sialagogues seems a promising effect on treating xerostomia. It’s our concern to develop studies with scientifically relevance of the effectiveness of a topical sialagogues as therapeutic treatment of xerostomia and hypossialia. Our primordial objective of this study is to quantify the salivary secretion and xerostomia in association with polymedication to project a future study to be developed in Clínica Universitária Egas Moniz to assess the effectivity of a topical sialagogues and quantify changes in stimulated and non-stimulated salivary flow in two groups of patients :healthy and polymedicated and measuring the self-perception of the severity of xerostomia .
