Abstract(s)
This dissertation reports a study case of a Child Protect Service of the Autonomous Region of the Azores. This region has a child-at-risk ratio above the national average and recent activity reports do not evidence a significant reduction in the number of ongoing cases or the number of children and young people at risk. It is also verified that a significant part of the families of these children show problems of poverty and, in the majority of cases, low education levels. For that reason, it is important to analyze the role of the social worker in the context of Child Protect Service, the guiding principles of professional practices, the suitability of the methodologies used and its professional procedures so that, in the future, improvement of models may occur as well as procedures that may counteract risk and increase the protection of children and young people. This study was based on analysis of oficial documents such as the recent annual reports of the ARA and the archived cases of promotion and protection. Group interviews were also preformed to Child Protect Services social workers and completed with the daily registration of theirs practices.
