Abstract(s)
This study is part of the Master's Degree in Child Health and Pediatric Nursing. This report is divided into two main parts. The first part aims to describe and critically reflect on the training process developed throughout the course, namely during the internships, where it was possible to observe and understand the role of the Pediatric Nurse in the most varied areas, with the ultimate goal being the acquisition and development of skills to provide specialized care to children and young people in partnership with the family/caregivers in different contexts. In the second part, the theme "Sleep in the Pediatric Population" is explored through an integrative literature review. The theme arises from the gap identified in the different care settings regarding the adoption of healthy sleep habits in children/young people of different age groups. The results obtained were framed in Family Centered Care by the need to develop knowledge and skills in the whole family to intervene in the pediatric population's sleep. In this sense, there were five categories: Sleep disorders/problems; Impact of sleep deprivation on the children/young people and family; Role of the Pediatric Nurse; Interventions directed to parents/family/community and Interventions directed to the children/young people. The results suggest the negative impact of sleep deprivation on the children/young people and family and the importance of intervention by the Pediatric Nurse who, due to his/her proximity to the children/young people and family, is in a privileged position to carry out teachings with a view to improving the quality of sleep and, consequently, improving the quality of life of children/young people and families.
