Abstract(s)
Projeto Prevention of Sexual Harassment in Secondary Schools.
Framework: Almeida & Centa (2008) refer that sex education is essential in adolescence, and this includes, according to Carvalho, Monteiro, & Alves (2016), education for affections. Parents should occupy a central position in sex education framed in beliefs, attitudes and behaviours (Marin et al, 2019). A community nursing intervention project was developed as part of the Prevention of Sexual Harassment in Secondary Schools project. Objective: To empower the parents of a secondary school in the Municipality of Barreiro - Portugal, in the field of sexual education. Methodology: The Health Planning Methodology and the Health Promotion Model of Nola Pender were used and a survey was applied to 14 guardiens which included the Scale of Attitudes about Dating Violence of Saavedra, Machado & Martins. Results: Problems were identified on the communication about sexuality between parents and children; gaps in knowledge regarding attitudes and organisations to turn to when faced with situations of sexual harassment, and gaps in knowledge and/or erroneous beliefs regarding dating violence. Conclusions: The evaluation of the project shows that the joint efforts by the health and education sectors, through health education, and carried out by nursing, contributed to increase the knowledge of the parents participating in the project and with this, a reflection on beliefs and attitudes is expected, which can lead to changes in behaviour/lifestyle, of parents and children, for a healthy sexuality in adolescence.
