This report aims to document the path taken throughout clinical training, with a view to acquiring and developing common competencies for specialist nurse, and specific competencies of midwifery, as well as the competencies for obtaining a master`s degree. Critical and reflective analysis, combined with theoretical knowledgr and clinical practice, allowed for the consolidation of specialized competencies in the área of maternal and obstetric health. In diferente clinical contexts, a training intervention project was developed and implemented on the theme “The impact of sleep on the transition to parenthood: intervention of midwifery”, based on project methodology and scientific evidence, using Afaf Meleis`s Theory of Transitions as a reference. Sleep is an essential biological need for maintaining biopsychosocial health. Sleep deprivation or poor quality can compromisse vital balance and lead to pathological situations. The transition to parenthood is a complex process involving physiological, psychological, emotional and social changes, recquiring adaptation to the new parental role. The birth of a child implies a reorganization of family dynamics, with sleep disturbances being one of the main challenges faced by parents. Thus, the general objective was defined as “Developing midwifery skills in parental empowerment to promote sleep habits in the neonatal period.”. In this sense, specific objectives were outlined in each clinical context, and activities were developed to meet the identified needs. The results highlighted knowledge gaps among parents regarding newborn sleep and the changes inherent in parenthood, reinforcing the role of the midwife in parental education and in facilitating an adaptative transition.
