Abstract(s)
O tema e o principal objetivo deste relatório é investigar qual o papel do designer numa instituição pública.
This dissertation report describes the six months of internship in Lisbon’s City Hall, in the Department of Physical Activity and Sports, between November 2015 and May 2016. This report aims to address the course of work, all the stages of this internship and the acquired experiences, both professional, where I exercised the duties in the field of communication design, and personal, where I learned how to work as a part of a team and the inherent dynamic involved in the world of work. The dissertation will describe the historical background, the duty and mission of the City Hall and the Department, as well as its values, its services and departments and some case study examples from present projects. The theme and main objective of this report is to investigate what is the role of a designer in a public institution. Namely, what are its characteristics, advantages and disadvantages and for whom do they work. In order to answer the foremost question, this project will be developed using a Practice-based design research methodology. Through selected examples, I will characterize and aim to describe the role of a designer in a public institution, more specifically in communication design. Three of the projects developed during the internship will serve as case studies, to analyze and suggest the designer’s role in public institutions. These projects will be studied and will serve as means to answer the research questions, using interviews as investigative methods. At last, I will reflect about this internship opportunity and its content and learning experiences.
