Abstract(s)
This research work's main objective is to analyze the knowledge about Financial Literacy (FL) of students who attend all degrees at the Escola Superior de Ciências Empresariais (ESCE) of the Instituto Politécnico de Setúbal (IPS) and, as secondary objectives, to analyze whether sociodemographic influence the LF level. The technique used in data collection was a questionnaire survey, which included questions to characterize the profile of the interviewees, their attitudes towards finance, economics and money, as well as questions about behavior and financial knowledge, and thus respond to the objectives defined. For the empirical study, a population composed of 1816 students was selected, who were studying all degrees at the Escola Superior de Ciências Empresariais of the Instituto Politécnico de Setúbal. Questionnaires were subsequently sent by email to all students, obtaining 103 responses to the questionnaire from different students, but only 102 were considered valid. The final sample of this investigation was 102 responses. The results obtained demonstrate that there is some financial attitude on the part of the interviewees, however they did not attach much importance to the fact of preparing a monthly budget. In the indicator of financial behavior, the performance of the interviewees was very different, if on the one hand there is concern about savings and paying bills up to date, on the other the lack of concern, demonstrates the age disparity, the beginning of life for some and for others a lifetime already consolidated. In the financial knowledge indicator, the results were considerable taking into account the sample size, an average of 10 responses per respondent were answered correctly to 15 questions asked, which is very satisfactory, a consequence of some life experience
