Abstract(s)
Oral rehabilitation using fixed prosthodontics plays an important role in dentistry, allowing patients with missing, damaged or compromised teeth to regain masticatory function, aesthetics and oral health. Dental preparations are the first step in the process of creating a restoration and are therefore fundamental to ensuring its durability, functionality and aesthetics. It is extremely important that the dentist does not neglect the mechanical and biological principles of dental preparations, as they represent the basis for optimum preservation of dental support structures, which are closely related to the longevity of rehabilitations. Some basic principles must be followed that determine the success of fixed prosthodontic dental rehabilitations, namely the preservation of tooth structure, retention and resistance, durability of the structure, integrity of the margins and preservation of the periodontium. With scientific and technical developments, it is possible to say that nowadays there is an immense variety of treatment options available to rehabilitate most situations, from ceramic crowns, overlays, onlays, inlays to dental veneers. This study focuses in more detail on rehabilitations with veneers and crowns, in an approach where preparation is essential for success. This work follows a methodology based on bibliographical research using PubMed, Cochrane, B-On, Scielo and Google Scholar as search engines.
