Abstract(s)
A agricultura, na sua vertente mais intensiva, acarreta para o meio ambiente uma forte pressão nos recursos naturais. Cumulativamente, as alterações climáticas vieram aumentar os desafios associados à produção de alimentos e ao uso sustentável desses recursos. Nesse contexto, o estudo aqui apresentado dá continuidade ao Projeto de Agricultura Sustentável, promovido pelo grupo económico, atualizando um dos seus produtos – o «Manual de Agricultura Sustentável» – para uma versão que consiga dar resposta aos principais desafios agrícolas da atualidade. Para tal, desenvolveram-se indicadores de sustentabilidade com base em análise de conteúdo de: documentos de referência, nacionais e internacionais; referenciais normativos que promovam práticas agrícolas sustentáveis; e análise dos resultados do projeto precursor. Esse processo deu origem a uma proposta de referencial, composto por 103 descritores, que permite avaliar os índices de sustentabilidade de explorações agrícolas no que concerne a 12 domínios: solos, fertilização, inimigos das culturas, fitofármacos, água, energia, ar e ambiente sonoro, resíduos, biodiversidade, recursos humanos, economia, e responsabilidade social e ambiental. Os resultados encontram consonância com a maioria das metas dos Objetivos de Desenvolvimento Sustentável e da Estratégia do Prado ao Prato, revelando os aspetos, dentro destes domínios, para os quais será necessária maior atenção por parte dos produtores hortofrutícolas.
Intensive agriculture brings high pressure to enviromental natural resources. Additionally, climate changes have increased challenges associated to food production and sustainable use of the mentioned resources. In this context, present research follows up Sustainable Agriculture Project, promoted by economic group, updating one of its products – Sustainable Agriculture Handbook – to a version which is able to answer the main global issues regarding sustainable agriculture. To achieve that, sustainability indicators were developed through content analysis of: national and international guidance documents; normative references which promote sustainable agricultural practices; and of precursor project results. This process originated a referential proposal, composed by 103 descriptors, that allows to assess agricultural explorations sustainability indexes related to 12 domains: soils, fertilization, culture enemies, phytopharmaceuticals, water, energy, air and sound environment, waste, biodiversity, human resources, economy, and social and environmental responsibility. The results meet the majority of Sustainable Development Goals and Farm to Fork Strategy guidelines, showing in which areas, inside these domains, is required more attention by fruit and vegetables producers.
