Abstract(s)
Europeia.
This study was motivated by the high number of requests for support, addressed to the Public Security Police, based on the nuisance caused by noise, which led us to think that something could possibly be improved in terms of prevention. Its purpose was to analyze the basis of the portuguese legal regime on noise pollution prevention and control, in the light of the recommendations and directives of the World Health Organization and the European Union. Noise pollution is the second main form of air pollution and poses serious risks to ecosystems and human health, resulting in the loss of thousands of lives per year, which is why it is essential to ensure the effectiveness of its prevention and control. Its legal regime is extensive and complex, but the analysis of its structuring regulations allowed us to conclude that it is not adequate to the effective safeguard of the right to health and well-being, which is why it should be the object of a broad reflection and discussion. We also concluded that the contribution that new technologies can offer in this area should be more explored.
