Abstract(s)
Tema: As alterações a nível demográfico e, considerando o processo de
envelhecimento, também a nível biológico constituem desafios substanciais no domínio
social, económico, político, tecnológico e ambiental, exigindo, particularmente no setor
fator idade.
Material e Métodos: Estudo quantitativo, transversal e analítico. A amostra é não
probabilística, composta por 82 pessoas, que frequentam o Hospital do Norte do País.
Os instrumentos utilizados foram: questionário, Teste Timed Up and Go (TUG) e
Escala de Quedas de Morse (EQM). A análise compreendeu a estatística descritiva
e do TUG (rho=0,761, n=82, p<0,001).
Theme: Demographic changes and, considering the aging process, also at the biological level, constitute substantial challenges in the social, economic, political, technological and environmental fields, requiring, particularly in the health sector, proactive and effective responses in the area of rehabilitation. This challenge leads to the need to address issues such as the relationship between body balance and the risk of falling. Objectives: Describe sociodemographic characteristics, health status and fall risk of persons receiving care at Hospital in the North of the Country; and analyze the correlation between body balance and risk of falling, as well as the correlation between body balance and risk of falling and age. Material and Methods: The present study is characterized as quantitative, transversal and analytical. The sample is non-probabilistic, composed by 82 persons, who attend the Hospital in the North of the Country. The instruments used were: questionnaire, Timed Up and Go test (TUG) and Morse Fall Scale (EQM). The analysis comprised simple descriptive and exploratory statistics. The correlation between the variables was analyzed using Spearman's correlation test. Results: Male gender is the predominant gender in this sample (63.4%). The mean age was 68.12 years. Most of the sample is characterized as having a low risk of falling according to the EQM (58.8%) and a normal performance in the TUG test (43.9%). A positive and strong correlation was found to exist, between the EQM and TUG scores (rho=0.761, n=82, p<0.001). The correlation between the age factor and the MQS score (rho=0.476, n=82, p<0.001) and the TUG (rho=0.621, n=82, p<0.001) was also positive. Conclusion: These results reinforce the knowledge about the risk of falling and body balance. The Nurse Specialist in Rehabilitation Nursingmay play an important role in a Hospital in the North of the Country, as it may act proactively to anticipate and prevent falls. More research is needed on this topic, namely in the assessment of the effect of the Nurse Specialist in Rehabilitation Nursing intervention
