Abstract(s)
idosos/as institucionalizados/as (Henriques, Dourado, Melo, & Tanaka, 2019; Santos, 2024;
Sousa, 2015).
e empatia no trabalho.
This Internship Report, developed as part of the Master's Degree in Social Gerontology, explores the implementation of the Humanitude Care Methodology (MCH) in a Residential Facility for the Elderly, investigating its impact on the care provided to the elderly. The methodology, put forward by Yves Gineste and Rosette Marescotti, aims to humanize care, focusing on consideration for the dignity and independence of users. The theoretical research dealt with ageing as a multidimensional process and highlighted the transformative role of Humanitude in improving the quality of life of institutionalized elderly people. The research methodology used a mixed approach, combining qualitative and quantitative forms. The qualitative approach involved interviews with the institution's professionals, direct observation of institutional practices and document analysis. In turn, the quantitative approach included the analysis of residents' sociodemographic data and focused on evaluating the quality of the training provided to caregivers, measuring its effectiveness. The practical application of the methodology included interventions such as reorganizing spaces, humanizing meals and personalizing the care provided. The results showed benefits both for the elderly, who had greater autonomy and self-esteem, and for the caregivers, who reported greater job satisfaction and empathy. Similarly, the final considerations indicate that the implementation of MCH in the institution has promoted a more welcoming and humane environment, where the training of professionals and the continuous adaptation of spaces are key elements in guaranteeing the beneficial impact of this approach on the geriatric care offered.
