Abstract(s)
recuperação do atleta.
“Doping” consists of the use of illicit and unethical substances to improve an athlete’s performance and performance. For this purpose, several substances are used, with different specific objectives. Usually, the use of anabolic steroids, stimulants, diuretics, hormones and other molecules increases strength, resistance, speed, improves performance, or even the athlete's recovery capacity. Considering adequate medical monitoring, Dental Medicine is important for the athlete, due to its preventive and therapeutic role. For those who practice contact sports, the use of protective mouthguards is recommended, although this practice must be complemented with other preventive strategies. Contact trauma is a particularly important clinical situation in these athletes. However, other important situations should not be neglected, such as temporomandibular disorders, malocclusion, periodontal disease, cavities or erosions, which are highly prevalent and can influence performance and performance. The use of certain illicit substances can induce changes in the structures of the oral cavity, being responsible for certain clinical situations in the field of Dentistry. It is therefore important that the Dentist is aware of the occurrence of these potential clinical manifestations in high-competition athletes, and must actively participate in the prevention and monitoring of these individuals. In this work we intend to carry out a narrative review of the literature, with the aim of identifying the main changes in the structures of the oral cavity induced by the use of illicit substances in high-competition athletes. It is also intended to review the main substances associated with “doping” and briefly describe their mechanisms of action and known physiological effects, both at a systemic level and located in the oral cavity.
