Abstract(s)
Focused on the concept of delinquency it was our main purpose in this paper to distinguish between the notion of primary and recidivist inmate, showing, for that purpose, the importance that family support may have as a source prevention or stimulation of delinquency. We conclude, by our theoretical analysis of delinquents and deviant behaviors can be determined by several factors, among which are highlighted the precarious, financial and economical conditions, as well as family and social experiences, among others. The path we have outlined in our study started from the guiding principle that delinquency is a scourge for families and for society, the offender/delinquent carries out the crime without looking at means for achieve its ends. This is the sense over which we have formulated our problem. What is the relationship that exists/may exist between the offender/delinquent and family structure. This is a problem that we may ask in two ways: Is the offender/delinquent aware of the serious consequences of his acts? May the family structure be somehow a key factor in preventing delinquent act? The methodology employed in this investigation was based on the following assumptions: use of hypothetical deductive method with resort to techniques of analysis based on quantitative and qualitative data. Our sample consisted in analyzing sixty inmates "living" in a Portuguese Prison. We have selected thirty primary and thirty recidivists inmates. We used the technique of individual directive interview. Inmates have acceded in a very natural and cordial way when they faced with our presence and with the reason why we were reaching them. They answered to our questions, with some expressions of regret, passivity and resignation, or even revolt. After the correlation of the central variable under study, we conclude in this study that particularly the family, and on a less particular way, other levels of society (government, for example) play a major role in the early prevention of delinquency.
