Abstract(s)
This study aims to present the experiences of families throughout the adaptation process of their children to daycare. It is characterized by its mixed nature, relying on the analysis and collection of qualitative and quantitative data, allowing for a more comprehensive and detailed understanding of families' experiences during the adaptation process. The research problem arises from both professional and personal interests, as the researcher works as an educational assistant in a daycare setting. Thus, the research questions emerged: How many adaptation processes did each family experience regarding their children's transition to daycare? How did families feel during the adaptation process? And what resources did families utilize during this process? These questions are supported by the following objectives: to identify how many adaptation processes families have experienced so far and which ones were the most and least smooth; to comprehend the emotional state of families during their children's adaptation to daycare; to understand the influence of the duration (days, weeks, months) of the adaptation process on families' reactions at the moment of admission; and finally, to grasp which resources were most significant for families during their children's adaptation to daycare. To achieve these objectives, data were collected, analyzed, and concluded from questionnaires administered to 39 families, as well as interviews conducted with 3 selected families. The study highlights the importance of ethical considerations to ensure respect for participants and the integrity of the research, following the Principles of Professional Ethics. The obtained data lead to the following conclusions: the emotional states presented by families when entrusting their children to the educational team directly influenced the behaviors exhibited by the children; there is a correlation between the number of children and the smoother/more difficult and complex adaptation processes; the difficulties families experienced during their children's adaptation process are reflected in the moment of separation; the resources mobilized by families to facilitate or overcome the difficulties encountered relied on support from spouses, the educational team, and other relatives.
