Introdução: O isolamento social no idoso é uma preocupação crescente em muitos países, pois o
envelhecimento da população é uma realidade mundial. Este ocorre quando um indivíduo idoso tem
poucas interações sociais com outras pessoas. Objetivo: Contribuir para a diminuição do isolamento
social do idoso que reside sozinho Método: Metodologia do Planeamento em Saúde, participaram 32
utentes com mais de 65 anos que residem sozinhos. Os dados foram recolhidos através de um
questionário socio demográfico e o preenchimento das escalas UCLA e LSNS-6. Resultados: Os
resultados obtidos confirmam na população estudada a tendência para o aumento do risco de
isolamento social nos idosos que residem sozinhos. Conclusão: Este é um problema sério que pode
ter efeitos negativos na saúde física e mental dos idosos. No entanto, existem várias maneiras de
combater o isolamento social e ajudar os idosos a ultrapassar este desafio.
