Abstract(s)
The aim of the present project is to study the consumers' profile, attitudes and behaviour towards sustainability. Moreover, to perceive how the three pillars of sustainability, triple bottom line, show up in the consumerism of the Portuguese and which dimensions prove most important. A review of the pertinent literature was undertaken so that the following themes of critical importance might be addressed in carrying out the project: sustainability, sustainable consumer behaviour and sustainable consumption. The descriptive kind of research was the methodological procedure used in the present project by way of two distinct instruments: a questionnaire survey and a semi-structured interview, both followed by an analysis done a posteriori to the gathered data. The main finding of the present study is that the age groups over 35 are the ones who are increasingly concerned about sustainability, once that economic patterns dictate their consumption behaviours and environmental standards are considered as the last in importance.
