Abstract(s)
This report aims to highlight the development and acquisition of skills of the Specialist Nurse in Child and Pediatric Health Nursing throughout the Master's degree in Pediatric and Child Health Nursing. It focuses on the need to promote the physical and emotional well-being of children and their families, minimizing stress associated with pediatric care. Play emerges as an essential catalyst for promoting child health, especially during hospitalization and painful procedures. In this context, the EEESIP's skill acquisition process was mediated by active involvement in promoting non-pharmacological strategies, such as play, aimed at the physical and emotional well-being of children. This facilitates interaction among health professionals, children, and their families, aiming to maximize their health. Therefore, this report aims to clarify the educational journey undertaken, based on the best scientific evidence, and critical and reflective analysis of care practices, supported by Jean Watson's Theory of Human Caring aligned with the principles of child- and family-centered care, care partnerships, and non-traumatic care. During the internships, activities focused on play were conducted, and predominant and essential strategies for promoting the well-being of children in need of healthcare were identified. The goal is to reduce stress associated with uncomfortable/painful procedures and hospitalization. Play, being intrinsic to human existence, plays a crucial role, especially during childhood, promoting the ongoing development of the child and emotional management strategies during hospitalization. Collaboration among nurses, children, and their families, driven by a specialized, grounded, and humanized approach to care, is essential to maximize health and well-being during the nursing care process.
