This dissertation investigates the contribution of co-creation to the promotion of sustainable tourism, with a focus on collaboration among stakeholders in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area (AML). The study is grounded on the premise that the integration of participatory innovation and socio-environmental responsibility is essential for the transformation of the tourism sector. The theoretical framework combines the concepts of sustainability, interorganizational collaboration, and experience co-creation, providing a critical lens through which these elements are analyzed in the organizational reality of the AML. A mixed-methods approach was adopted, combining a literature review with the application of a structured questionnaire answered by 172 stakeholders from the local tourism sector. Data collection and analysis were conducted using consistent statistical techniques, namely Kruskal-Wallis tests and descriptive analysis, complemented by qualitative interpretation. The findings revealed that co-creation is widely valued as a strategy for collaborative innovation, and sustainability is perceived as a central axis of tourism development. Furthermore, organizational size and turnover were identified as significant factors influencing the level of engagement in such practices. The conclusions demonstrate that co-creation can serve as a decisive vector for building resilient, authentic, and sustainably developed tourism destinations. Larger organizations showed higher levels of commitment to sustainable and collaborative practices, while smaller businesses faced greater integration challenges. The study also offers practical and policy-oriented recommendations to address structural disparities and strengthen local collaborative ecosystems, contributing both to scientific advancement in sustainable tourism and to strategic decision-making support for industry stakeholders.
