Através de exemplos desafiadores para a investigação e de grande impacto socioeconómico, em áreas muito diversas, desde energia solar térmica até pacientes sujeitos a anestesia, esta comunicação apresenta uma visão para não especialistas de algumas grandes ideias relativas à dicotomia entre incerteza e otimalidade, que estão na base do controlo automático de sistemas dinâmicos, com ênfase no controlo adaptativo e ótimo/preditivo.
Through challenging examples for research and with great socioeconomic impact, in very diverse areas, from solar thermal energy to patients undergoing anaesthesia, this communication presents a vision for non-specialists of some major ideas regarding the dichotomy between uncertainty and optimality, that form the basis of automatic control of dynamical systems, with an emphasis on adaptive and optimal/predictive control.
