Abstract(s)
minimizar a existências destes riscos.
The phytopharmaceutical products are common substances used in intensive food production, since, without them, it would be impossible to produce food in the quantity and quality necessary to feed the world population. However, the handling of phytopharmaceuticals poses several risks to human health, which are responsible for the development of the most diverse pathologies in humans. There are few scientific studies that demonstrate the risks associated with SHT practices related to the handling of phytopharmaceutical products, particularly in the Alentejo region. Due to the limited knowledge of this topic, it is necessary to carry out a study that addresses the identification of existing practices relating to the storage, preparation, and application of plant protection products, as well as carrying out a risk analysis to understand which tasks are more pronounced risks, and how the existence of these risks can be minimized. Depending on this need, surveys were carried out with 40 phytopharmaceutical products applicators regarding the safety measures adopted regarding the handling of phytopharmaceutical products. During the assessment of the risk analysis, it was noted that throughout the three ongoing stages, the stage of preparation and application of phytopharmaceuticals are the stages that carry the most risks for applicators of phytopharmaceutical products. Therefore, the level of risk in these stages increases as high or very high because workers do not use appropriate PPE, which is in systematic contact with the volatile compounds released by the products. It is suggested that future studies try to understand why applicators, even though they know they are taking high risks, do not use appropriate PPE, as well as trying to expand the scope of the study to other regions of the country.
