Abstract(s)
Violence in dating relationships had been increasing in recent years, becoming relevant implementing intervention projects in childcare / youth institutions. Aim: This intervention aimed to empower adolescents institutionalized, between 14 and18 years in school stage, for making informed and responsible decisions about sexuality, gender and health by developing skills and preventive attitudes toward dating violence. This intervention was implemented in a Christian institution in Coimbra and involved six interactive sessions lasting an average of 120 minutes The appeal for informational powerpoints, to interactive games, video clips and the exploration of texts were an innovative effective strategy in prevention practices of dating violence, allowing teens to develop a critical eye to the information conveyed by them. Methods: To assess the impact of those sessions video-clips were used and also interactive games, texts, a particular video and the Portuguese version of the Attitude Scale Face Violence in Dating (EAVN). Results/Discussion: The results indicate that educational and interactive sessions, conducted in the religious institution, were effective. The results show that the scales EAVN beliefs taken by the participants in relation to violence in intimate relationships have changed significantly .This change toward a lower tolerance occurred in all factors of legitimation, pointing out the overall declining legitimacy of female physical violence to 100%. Conclusion: The objectives of this project were accomplished since; i) there was a decrease of the legitimacy of physical, psychological and sexual violence in dating relationships; ii) attitudes and behaviors related to stereotyping, prejudice, discrimination, sexism, homophobia, sex, gender and sexuality were identified; iii) physically and psychologically featured interactions between characters and behaviors of sexuality were identified; iv) attitudes and behaviors regarding the prevention of dating violence were promoted; v) adolescents were aware about attitudes and aggressive behavior in intimate relationships, and the impact on victims and forms of termination; vi) were recognized the various types of violence and forms of control; vii) was encouraged the victim support and the denunciation of abuse. There was a statistically significant decrease in legitimating attitudes of violence from the adolescents subject to intervention and most of them mentioned the relevance of such actions having enjoyed the activities especially particular the exploitation of video clips.
