Abstract(s)
A demência é uma patologia neurodegenerativa, que afeta principalmente as
pessoas idosas, com evolução progressiva e irreversível ao longo de vários anos. É
caraterizada por declínio cognitivo, num ou mais domínios, que interfere na
capacidade de a pessoa realizar de modo independente as atividades de vida diária.
No curso da doença surgem sintomas psicológicos e comportamentais que agravam
o funcionamento diário e o sofrimento do doente e família.
Várias são as problemáticas emergentes no cuidado à pessoa idosa com
demência, muitas das quais estão relacionadas com o seu conforto e bem-estar.
Neste sentido, importa compreender e levar à prática de cuidados as intervenções que
contribuem para a melhoria da prestação de cuidados de enfermagem à pessoa idosa
com demência.
O presente relatório pretende documentar o desenvolvimento de competências
de mestre e enfermeira especialista desenvolvidas no estágio do Curso de Mestrado
em Enfermagem Médico-Cirúrgica na Área de Intervenção à Pessoa Idosa realizado
numa unidade residencial para pessoas idosas com demência.
Os objetivos delineados para o Estágio com Relatório foram mapear as
intervenções promotoras de conforto e bem-estar na pessoa idosa com demência
institucionalizada com a realização de uma revisão scoping, prestar cuidados de
enfermagem centrados na pessoa idosa com demência e família baseados na
evidência e promover a formação em serviço à equipa de saúde sobre cuidados de
conforto nas pessoas idosas com demência.
Dementia is a neurodegenerative pathology that mainly affects older people, with progressive and irreversible evolution over several years. It is characterized by cognitive decline, in one or more domains, which interferes with the person's ability to perform daily life activities independently. During the progression of the disease, psychological and behavioral symptoms that worsen the daily functioning and suffering of the patient and family. There are several issues emerging in the care of older people with dementia, many of which are related to their comfort and well-being. In this sense, it is important to understand and put into practice the interventions that contribute to improving the nursing care to older people with dementia. The purpose of this report was to describe the competences developed in the internship of the master's course in medical-surgical nursing in the area of elderly nursing, carried out in a residential unit for older people with dementia. The main goals for the Internship were to identify the interventions that promote comfort and well-being in institutionalized older people with dementia, provide evidence-based and person and family centered nursing care, and to promote training for the care team about comfort care in older people with dementia.
