Introduction: As a student of the Master's Degree in Child and Pediatric Health Nursing, it became pertinent to undertake a critical and in-depth reflection on the development of various competencies, with the aim of enhancing nursing practices through specialized interventions centered on the child and family, thereby contributing to the highest possible quality of life across all care settings. Throughout the various clinical placements, it was recognized that the theme of sleep and rest significantly influences the growth and development of the child, thereby underscoring the crucial role of nurses in intervening with parents. Such interventions aim to empower parents in the management of sleep hygiene routines at home, promoting healthier sleep patterns and positively impacting the lives of both the child and family. Objectives: Conduct a critical and reflective analysis of the competencies developed by the Specialist Nurse in Child and Pediatric Health Nursing during the clinical placements; Develop a Scoping Review in order to map the available scientific evidence concerning the empowerment of parents regarding strategies that promote sleep hygiene in preschool-aged children. Methodology: The first chapter presents a reflective report on the educational and professional development pathway undertaken during the Master's Degree in Child and Pediatric Health Nursing, with a particular focus on the specific competencies developed within each clinical context. The second chapter presents the Scoping Review, conducted in accordance with the methodological guidelines of the Joanna Briggs Institute, thereby ensuring rigor throughout the research process. Results: Throughout the educational process, a range of competencies were developed, including general competencies of both the Specialist Nurse and the Master's-level Nurse, as well as specific competencies of the Specialist Nurse in Child and Pediatric Health Nursing. The development of these competencies was grounded in the best available scientific evidence, aiming to contribute to the continuous improvement of clinical practice. The Scoping Review identified four categories of nursing interventions that contribute to the empowerment of parents in promoting sleep hygiene in preschool-aged children: School-based sleep health education programs; Anticipatory guidance programs; Education programs for the management of sleep disturbances; Parental education programs grounded in the theory of self-efficacy. Conclusions: In pediatric nursing care, the provision of appropriate, child- and family-centered services, delivered in partnership with families, requires the development of specific competencies by the Specialist Nurse in Child and Pediatric Health Nursing. The nurse plays a fundamental role in empowering parents regarding strategies that promote sleep hygiene in preschool-aged children. Therefore, it is crucial to invest in interventions that enhance parental knowledge and skills, fostering parental empowerment and strengthening perceptions of self-efficacy related to this domain.
