A qualitative methodology was used, with non-probability sampling, consisting of 10 elderly individuals living in the municipalities of Trancoso and Mêda. Data collection was conducted through semi-structured interviews, which were subsequently subjected to content analysis. The majority of the elderly individuals in this study (80% of the sample), reported participating in some activity and/or project. The results highlight the importance of social support networks and social participation, as these are fundamental elements for promoting healthy aging. Despite living in a rural context, the main limitation identified by the participants was the lack of transportation, and no other significant obstacles associated with this condition were identified. In contrast, all perceive their aging as healthy, valuing daily activities that allow them to remain actively occupied and integrated into the community.
