Abstract(s)
The relationship between school and family is a determining factor for children’s educational success, with communication between both parties being a central dimension of this partnership. This study aimed to understand how communication between school and family is perceived and experienced in the context of a 2nd grade class, from the parents’ perspective, as well as to analyze the forms of communication used, with particular emphasis on the use of WhatsApp, reflecting on its usefulness, effectiveness, and impact on the school-family relationship. A mixed methodology was adopted, integrating the application of questionnaires to 27 parents and the conduction of semistructured interviews with 5 participants, which allowed for the collection of both quantitative and qualitative data regarding parents’ perceptions of different aspects of communication. The results revealed a predominantly positive perception of the schoolfamily relationship, with parents valuing the active role they play in their children’s educational path and recognizing the importance of close and continuous collaboration with the school. Communication was generally perceived as effective, with the WhatsApp group standing out due to its speed and usefulness in exchanging information, although some limitations were identified, namely excessive notifications, reliance on written communication, and lack of privacy.
