Abstract(s)
consideram adequadas.
comportamentos.
parentais do adulto cuidador.
Parenting style is the way parents raise their children, it is the physical and emotional environment in which this education takes place, where parents apply the parenting practices they consider appropriate. The parenting practices used by educators shape the child into what he or she may become as an adult and have repercussions on the personality and socialization skills of the future youth/adult. It is through parenting practices that educators show which behaviors are acceptable and which are not, and in the future the child may be more likely to reproduce these behaviors. In an upbringing with conflicting parenting practices, the youth/adult may demonstrate antisocial or deviant behaviors and/or personality traits. With this study, we adapted Gomide's Parenting Styles Inventory (IEP) to the portuguese population. This inventory aims to assess the parental perceptions and practices of the adult caregiver. Our sample was composed of 307 respondents, with an average age of 39 years. About the results of this study, 52.4% of respondents demonstrated an at-risk or below- average parenting style. These results suggest the need for greater investment in working on healthy parenting practices that will improve relationships between parents and children/young people.
