This report was prepared within the scope of the 2nd Master's Degree Course in Medical-Surgical Nursing at the Escola Superior de Saúde Santa Maria in consortium with the Escola Superior de Enfermagem São José de Cluny, in the “Internship with Report” curricular unit, during the 2022/2023 academic year, and will support the public discussion for obtaining the Master’s degree. Entitled “Becoming a Specialist in Perioperative Nursing: From Training to Empowering the Person Undergoing Proctologic Surgery on an Outpatient Basis,” the objectives of this report are: 1) To highlight the development of common and specific competencies of the nurse specialist in Medical-Surgical Nursing for the Person in a Perioperative Situation; and 2) To illustrate the development of analysis, critical reflective reasoning, and decision-making skills, essential characteristics of a Specialist Nurse and Master in Medical-Surgical Nursing. Methodologically, this report is a descriptive, critical, and reflective account of the training journey, developed throughout the clinical internships, as defined in the master's course curriculum, and reveals a special focus on empowering the person undergoing proctologic surgery on an outpatient basis. Structured in three chapters, the first chapter presents a narrative literature review, justifying the relevance of the topic and emphasizing the need for knowledge updating and the health gains resulting from the nurse specialist's intervention regarding the empowerment of the person in a perioperative context The second chapter addresses the journey of developing common and specialized specific competencies, with particular emphasis on the training contexts. It references the professional experience in perioperative nursing, which enabled the accreditation of Clinical Teaching I – “Caring in the Operating Room,” under Regulation No. 435/2022, and also describes and contextualizes the teaching-learning process developed in Clinical Teachings II and III, carried out within the scope of the “Internship with Report” curricular unit, whose critical-reflective analysis of action and on action, in light of Regulations No. 140/2019 and 429/2018 of the Order of Nurses, emphasizes the profile achieved. The third chapter reflects on how the completed training journey contributed to my personal and professional empowerment, providing me with skills for a different perspective on Nursing for the person in a perioperative situation. In this sense, under the pretext of empowering the person undergoing proctologic surgery on an outpatient basis and their family, the report reveals how the acquired and consolidated knowledge was mobilized to stimulate and positively influence the change in perioperative nursing practice and my peers, thus emphasizing the development of master's competencies, concomitantly with the competencies of a specialist in Medical Surgical Nursing in the area of Nursing for the person in a perioperative situation aimed for in this journey.
