Abstract(s)
bibliográfica recorrendo a documentos, revistas, decretos-lei, regulamentações e ordens do exército.
Abstract During the twentieth century, for social, political, economic or purely military reasons, the Portuguese Army suffered several reorganizations. The changes resulting from these military reorganizations were felt, in Cavalry units too. These changes have been carried out by changing the unit’s mission, its organization and location or have led to the extinction of some units. The aim of this work is, for each age and unit, to understand the major reasons that led to the changes in the “network” of the Portuguese Cavalry. The methodology used in this study was based mainly on literature review using documents, magazines, decrees, regulations and army orders. A survey of the existing military reorganizations in the twentieth century was done based on this methodology, as well as a study of the units that existed at the beginning of the century and those that lasted until the twenty first century. An analysis of those reorganizations was also carried out from which one can conclude that the military reorganizations of the twentieth century are the result of strategic needs and policies leading units to adapt to these needs, reorganizing and refitting themselves though some end up being extinct.
