Numa sociedade caraterizada pelo ritmo alucinante do quotidiano e a necessidade
informativa crescente, estes dois fatores contribuíram, a espaços, para a invasão da agenda
mediática no contexto informativo da sociedade contemporânea. A informação veiculada
hoje pelos media tem um poder inegável na formação de quadros mentais relativamente a
acontecimentos e instituições. Os media constituem-se como órgãos preponderantes para a
perceção que a população tem do mundo. Esta participação na vida social coloca os media
como meios para promoção da imagem das instituições, seja com expectáveis benefícios
ou malefícios para as mesmas. Neste sentido torna-se preemente perceber qual o peso da
Polícia de Segurança Pública na agenda mediática e que imagem se projeta da instituição
através da produção de notícias. Com efeito, foi realizado um estudo descritivo com vista a
analisar as notícias transmitidas pelos três OCS escrita com maior tiragem em 2015. Com
recurso à análise de conteúdo trabalhou-se sobre a informação noticiosa recolhida e
procurou-se definir quais os grandes temas noticiados sobre a Polícia de Segurança
Pública. Entre os resultados obtidos, destaca-se o conteúdo informativo que associa a
atividade policial à repressão criminal.
Our society is characterized by both the blistering pace of daily life and the ever growing need for information: and these two factors contribute towards the invasion of the media's agenda in the informational context of contemporary society. The information conveyed by the media in this day and age represents an undeniable power in the formulation of mental pictures and public perception of both events and institutions. The media constitute themselves as preponderant organs for the perception that people have of the world. This part it plays in social life constitutes the media as a means towards promoting the image of institutions, be it positively or negatively. In this sense, it becomes urgent to understand the Public Security Police's weight amidst the media agenda and what’s the image this institution projects in regards to news production. We conducted a descriptive study in order to analyze the news transmitted by the three media outlets with highest coverage shares in the year 2015. We then conducted content analysis of the collected information, so as to define the major themes reported with regards to the Public Security Police. Our results show that the most representative theme is that which associates police activity and criminal activity..
