Abstract(s)
A odontopediatria é o ramo da Medicina Dentária responsável pela saúde oral das crianças, desde o nascimento até ao fim da sua adolescência. Neste sentido, este profissional de saúde afigura-se como a primeira linha de diagnóstico, tratamento e prevenção de patologias inerentes à saúde oral, sendo então o responsável pela especialidade onde a criança estabelecerá o primeiro contacto com o estado da sua cavidade.
A oncologia representa um dos maiores desafios na área da Medicina para o virar do novo século, cujo tratamento requer um corpo multidisciplinar e para o qual o Médico Dentista desempenha um papel perentório na deteção precoce de patologias de foro oncológico inerentes à cavidade oral.
Entre as patologias orais de foro oncológico mais comuns na especialidade de Odontopediatria constam os linfomas e os sarcomas, podendo afetar a fonética e mastigação da criança, necessitando de tratamento configurativo.
Pretende-se com esta narrativa rever o estado da arte e o papel do Odontopediatra no diagnóstico, encaminhamento e tratamento adequado de pacientes oncológicos pediátricos.
The pediatric dentistry is the field of Dental Medicine responsible for the oral health on children, therefore being the first-line on the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of the oral cavity pathologies and the responsible for the speciality where the child will establish the first contact with their oral cavity status. Oncology represents one of the major challenges on the Medical field for this new century and the treatment requires a multidisciplinary approach in which the dentist reinforces his key role at the early diagnosis of the oncologic oral pathologies. Between the most common oral cavity oncologic pathologies are the lymphomas and sarcomas, which can affect the children’s phonetic and function needing a more specific treatment. This narrative review intends to sum up the state-of-art and the role of the Pediatric Dentist at the diagnostic and consequent forwarding for an adequate treatment of children with oncologic diseases.
