Abstract(s)
Enquanto gestor do currículo, diariamente, o/a educador/a deve encorajar as
The main objectives of this research project report, entitled ‘Peer conflicts: The importance of conflict resolution in a nursery and kindergarten setting’, are to understand the role of the educator as curriculum manager in supporting the resolution of conflicts that occur between children and to demonstrate the importance of conflicts and their resolution for the integral development of children. This research was carried out in two educational contexts, kindergarten and nursery school, respectively. The methodology used in this study is qualitative research and the principles of action research were followed in order to answer the research question: What strategies can nursery teachers mobilise to support conflict resolution between children? The procedures used to collect and process the information were participant observation, field notes, document analysis, multimedia recordings, semi-structured interviews with the cooperating educators and content analysis. During the course of the research, a number of spontaneous and planned interventions were carried out, which will be presented in this report and which made it possible to answer the research question. With the conclusion of this study, it was possible to realise that the teacher has a leading role to play in supporting conflict resolution between children. As the manager of the curriculum, on a daily basis, the educator must encourage children to resolve the conflicts they get involved in and create a favourable environment in which they feel safe and confident.
