Abstract(s)
Mental disorders have become, in recent years, the leading cause of disability and one of the main causes of morbidity in societies. The first psychotic episode can affect various areas of human life, including psychological, social, emotional, and physical aspects. It is particularly stressful for both the individual experiencing it and their family. Early intervention with a person experiencing their first psychotic episode can be applied at two stages: prior to the first psychotic episode, within the scope of mental health promotion and mental illness prevention; and after the first psychotic episode has occurred, with specialized interventions directed at this phase. The Specialist Nurse in Mental Health and Psychiatric Nursing can develop specialized interventions within their area of competence, at the levels of prevention, recovery, and rehabilitation, as part of a multidisciplinary team. This report aims to demonstrate the training path undertaken during the internship, in an inpatient crisis psychiatry service and in a community context, where a project was implemented with the central objective of early intervention with individuals experiencing their first psychotic episode. It focuses on the reflective analysis of the interventions implemented in the context of early intervention with individuals experiencing their first psychotic episode, emphasizing relational excellence. A descriptive and reflective approach was used to conduct a critical analysis of the path taken in the acquisition and development of competencies by the Specialist Nurse in Mental Health and Psychiatric Nursing and as a Master's degree holder.
