Abstract(s)
OBJETIVOS: O estudo pretende (i) estudar as diferenças morfológicas, de aptidão física e
OBJECTIVES: This study intends to (i) study the morphological, physical fitness and psychosocial differences of women in the Training Courses for Agents (CFA), Chiefs (CFC) and Officers (CFO) of the Public Security Police (PSP); (ii) study the morphological, physical aptitude and psychosocial differences of women in the PSP Training Courses and Special Police Unit/ Personal Security Corp (UEP/CSP); and (iii) study the morphology of the UEP/CSP female police officers. METHOD: A total of 102 women participated in this study, 94 from the three PSP Training Courses (CFA, n = 48; CFC, n = 18; CFO, n = 28) and 8 from the UEP/CSP. Morphological, physical fitness, and psychosocial assessments were performed. The physical assessments of UEP/CSP women were provided by the Joint Doctrine and Training Core. RESULTS: It was observed that: (i) the CFO women have better physical condition than the CFC and CFA, with emphasis on waist and hip ratio (WHR) and horizontal impulsion; (ii) at the psychosocial level, the CFO women have great levels of determination and robustness; (iii) the women in CSP have a better morphological profile and physical fitness to those in the Training Courses; (iv) the WHR and sit-ups variables influence the probability of women from the Training Courses join the UEP/CSP; and (v) the morphology of the women in the CSP is above average for their age. CONCLUSIONS: The significant difference in various morphological, physical fitness and psychosocial attributes between the four groups of women under study emphasizes their abilities at what are, different moments in their police career. The results also suggest that age is not an impediment to good physical condition.
