Abstract(s)
Developing his activity in a complex, unstable and uncertain environment, the police decision maker decides often under time pressure and limited information, with possible repercussions not only to the police officer, as well as to the institution that he represents and to the quality of service to society. The decision of a police officer gains special interest in traffic stops, for a satisfactory decision can contribute to greater effectiveness of those traffic stops, as tools of prevention and deterrence of behaviours that would likely increase traffic accidents. This study sought to understand and describe how the expert female police officer decision makers decide, particularly what information they seek in order to stop a vehicle during a traffic stop. The data for this study was obtained through literature review, and conducting a simulation using stimulated retrospective think aloud technique. It also discusses the similarity of decision-making process between the male and female elements, considering only expert decision makers, and which information (objective or subjective) these decision makers predominantly seek when selecting vehicles for inspection.
