A pandemia do COVID-19 impactou a economia e sociedade globalmente, e a cultura foi dos setores mais lesados. A partir de casa, as pessoas que trabalhavam neste setor procuraram formas de obter rendimento. Foi precisamente quando os Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) começaram a ganhar reconhecimento global (tanto social, como financeiro e científico), por serem uma solução digital de autenticação e comercialização de arte. O cinema independente, por sua vez, tem vindo a ocupar o seu espaço no panorama cultural coexistindo com o cinema comercial. Isto porque este setor da indústria cinematográfica preza pela inovação, liberdade criativa e impacto sociopolítico e nem sempre este tipo de abordagem beneficia do mesmo tipo de investimento, distribuição ou exibição que o comercial.
Sendo assim, este trabalho explora o impacto que uma coligação entre os NFTs e o cinema independente pode trazer na distribuição, promoção, direitos, financiamento e engajamento da comunidade. Consideram-se para tal a natureza disruptiva dos monopólios financeiro e cultural que cada conceito representa, respetivamente.
A presente investigação foi construída através de uma revisão sistemática exploratória, que incidiu na revisão bibliográfica, estudo de casos e netnografia de ambientes descentralizados, o que permitiu provar o impacto dos NFTs que se começa a criar nas diferentes dimensões do cinema independente.
The COVID-19 pandemic impacted the economy and society globally. Culture was one of the most affected sectors economically. From home, people working in this sector looked for ways to earn income. This was precisely when Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) began to gain global recognition (both social, financial, and scientific), for being a digital solution for authenticating and trading art. Independent cinema, in turn, has been occupying its space in the cultural panorama, coexisting with commercial cinema. This is because the sector of the indie movies industry values innovation, creative freedom, and socio-political impact hence why this type of approach, does not always benefit from the same type of investment, distribution, or exhibition as the commercial one. As such, this work explores the impact that a coalition between NFTs and independent cinema can bring to distribution, promotion, rights, funding, and community engagement. To this end, the disruptive nature of the financial and cultural monopolies that each concept represents, respectively, are considered. The present research was built through an exploratory systematic review, which focused on the literature review, case studies and netnography of decentralized environments, which allowed us to prove the impact of NFTs that are beginning to be created in the different dimensions of independent cinema.
