This report describes the exhaustive study performed during the internship in the Masters of Conservation and Restoration, from the Polytechnic Institute of Tomar. In accordance to the plan of work previously defined, the traineeship was done around the Chapel of the Fonsecas, in the Parish Church of Our Lady of Light in Maceira, Leiria.
From this internship resulted the formal, historic and artistic study of the chapel. Although the church is classified as Public Interest Realty, its state of conservation was severely lacking, while the Chapel of the Fonsecas was reasonable in terms of its conservation. Due to greater force, the restrictions imposed during to the pandemic, it was not possible to execute the practical component related to the intervention. That being said, the present document focuses on the study of the chapel in favor of its appreciation and in order to propose an intervention methodology that guarantees its future continuity.
Some issues are highlighted when it comes to ethics, from which results brief reflections as is the case of the proposed project of enlargement and requalification of the church and its impact on the chapel. A reflection exercise is done also on the possibility of the existence of a repaint, considering its maintenance or removal in light of the worldwide recommended guidelines but also in light of its function and target audience
