operam no município do Cuito, província do Bié. A estrutura conceptual do projeto assenta no modelo
The present research project aims to establish the parameters, define the boundaries, and outline the methodological guidelines required for a study focused on understanding the influence and scope of culture and intercultural values on the organizational behavior of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs) in Angola, with particular emphasis on those operating in the municipality of Cuito, Bié Province. The conceptual framework of the project is grounded in the "research onion" model proposed by Saunders (2019). Within this framework, the study adopts a pragmatic philosophical approach, supported by a deductive theoretical development strategy. The methodological design follows a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative and qualitative perspectives, and relies on a survey strategy with both exploratory and descriptive logics. The temporal horizon of the research is longitudinal, since data collection—conducted through interviews and questionnaires—takes place at different stages throughout the study period, in line with the research schedule and planned activities, thereby ensuring a comprehensive application of the mixed methodology. A central objective of this investigation is the application of Hofstede’s six cultural dimensions model to the Angolan context. Although this model is widely used internationally, its application is predominantly focused on cross-national cultural comparisons, with fewer studies addressing organizational cultures. This study applies the model for the first time in Angola, drawing on the most recent version of the framework (Hofstede et al., 2010), whose validity and consistency are reassessed in the context under analysis. Given the complexity and extensiveness of the GLOBE model (Triandis, 2004)—which, although inspired by Hofstede, introduces additional ambiguities—the study privileges Hofstede’s model as a more structured and operationalizable analytical basis. Finally, the study seeks to determine the extent to which cultural dimensions influence the organizational behavior of Angolan SMEs, regardless of whether they are owned and managed by nationals or foreigners, taking into account the specific socioeconomic and cultural setting of the municipality of Cuito, the capital of Bié Province.
