Abstract(s)
Safety culture, being part of organizational culture, influences attitudes, risk perception, attitudes, beliefs and behaviors of management and workers in relation to safety. This dissertation aims to analyze how safety culture can make a positive contribution to reducing accident rates in a food industry. After reviewing the literature on safety culture and accidents at work, we analyzed and investigated real work accidents that occurred in 2022 and resulted in lost workdays. Despite the different existing analysis tools, for the practical development of this study, we considered using the most complete process for investigating and analyzing accidents at work, based on the RIAAT method, which consists of analyzing causes through a semi- structured interview with the injured person, allowing us to identify active failures and latent failures that could be the cause of the accident. This method of analysis is based on a form divided into four research parts, which can be applied in its entirety or not, depending on the level of research being carried out. In this context, the analysis varied between the in-depth, medium, and basic methods. The data obtained through the application of this process allowed for a better interpretation of the facts, contributing to the taking and implementation of practical measures to mitigate possible accidents. Through the analysis of accident data from the last two years, it is possible to state that there has been a decrease in accidents because of improvements made to the management system, such as the implementation and participation of good practices and daily routines in occupational health and safety, which contribute to the organizational safety culture.
