O conhecimento da Morfologia dentária é muito importante em Medicina Dentária, e pode até ser indispensável para conseguir um resultado mais estético e adaptado à estética facial do doente com vista a corresponder aos parâmetros estéticos atuais de atração do sorriso visto por não profissionais.
Na nossa sociedade, a aparência do corpo humano é de alta importância. A boca ocupa um lugar de realce sendo um órgão de comunicação verbal e não verbal, alimentação, respiração e fonação. É nosso dever de profissionais de analisar o seu impacto nos pacientes para perceber as suas expectativas e ajustar o nosso tratamento.
Para analisar a boca do nosso paciente é preciso não só conhecer bem os elementos
que os caracterizam: lábios, peças dentárias, compatibilidade, formas, cor e tamanho, mas também os critérios que determinam a escolha dos tratamentos (indicações, custo,
legislação e ética).
Podemos então focar nosso estudo sobre a observação dos diferentes elementos tal como os lábios, a linha do sorriso, a importância de um sorriso saudável, a simetria do sorriso, a estética facial do doente, mas sobre tudo os elementos característicos dos dentes do doente assim como os contatos inter-dentários, a cor, a configuração dos bordos incisais, a arquitetura gengival e odontológica e as proporções.
Dental morphology is widely used in dentistry and may even be indispensable to achieve the most aesthetic result and adapt the patient's facial aesthetics in order to correspond to the current aesthetic parameters of smile attraction seen by nonprofessionals. In our society, the appearance of the human body is of high importance. The mouth occupies a favored place as an organ of verbal and non-verbal communication, food, breathing and phonation. It is our duty as professionals to analyze their impact on patients to understand their expectations and adjust our treatment. To analyze our patient's mouth, it is necessary to know the elements that characterize them: lips, dental pieces, compatibility, shapes, color and size, but also, the criteria that determine a choice (indications, costs, legislation and ethics). We can then focus our study on observing different elements, such as the lips, a smile line, the importance of a healthy smile, a symmetry of a smile, a patient's facial aesthetics, but on everything that is used in patients. as inter-dental contacts, color, configuration of the incisor edges, gingival and dental architecture and their proportions.
