Abstract(s)
Dental erosion is a pathology that leads to an irreversible loss of the dental structure, which can lead to changes in both functional and aesthetic levels, impacting on the daily comfort of individuals. Since the consumption of erosive beverages, such as soft drinks, has been increasing exponentially over the years, the study of erosion has become a topic of extreme interest. However, the wide variety of methods available for research mean that the results of different investigations are contradictory and therefore many topics are still subject to debate. Through the review of the scientific literature and based on this observation, the objective of this paper is to apply a different methodology in the study of erosion that has not yet been addressed: optical microscopy. While the various existing erosion studies primarily use electron microscopy, this project will focus on conventional optical microscopy, to see if it will be a viable new method for studying this subject and economically more accessible.
