Abstract(s)
Os acidentes de viação são a causa de várias vítimas mortais e feridos em todo o Mundo,
e em especial em meio urbano. As rotundas são utilizadas nas vias rodoviárias como medidas
de acalmia de tráfego. Têm como objetivos, a melhoria da segurança rodoviária, com a
consequente redução da sinistralidade. Mantêm ainda a fluidez do trânsito especialmente em
meio urbano, e estabelecem um equilíbrio entre as acessibilidades e a mobilidade entre todos os
utilizadores da vias.
Pretendemos analisar em especial a cidade de Viseu, conhecida como a “cidade das
rotundas”. E perceber qual a perceção das pessoas quanto ao impacto das rotundas nas vias
rodoviárias da sua cidade. Também pretendemos saber se as rotundas contribuem para a
diminuição dos acidentes, e da sua gravidade no contexto particular da cidade. Analisamos os
acidentes de viação ocorridos num período específico na cidade de Viseu, quantos ocorreram
nas rotundas, e qual a gravidade dos mesmos para os utentes da via.
Este estudo de caso, com recurso a uma metodologia assente em estatísticas da
sinistralidade rodoviária em Viseu e um trabalho de campo com inquéritos online, visa perceber
o efetivo impacto das rotundas na sinistralidade em meio urbano. E também auscultar as
opiniões e perceções das pessoas que diariamente utilizam estas vias de acalmia de tráfego, na
esperança de poder apresentar contributos válidos para eventuais melhorias.
As rotundas, enquanto medidas de acalmia de tráfego, podem ser mais eficazes que
outras interseções de vias. Podem contribuir para uma redução da sinistralidade em meio urbano,
e acima de tudo, para a diminuição da gravidade dos acidentes.
Road traffic accidents are the cause of many deaths and injuries worldwide, especially in urban areas. Roundabouts are used on roads as traffic calming measures. Their purpose is to improve road safety and reduce the number of accidents. They also keep traffic flowing, especially in urban areas, and balance accessibility and mobility for all road users. We want to analyze the city of Viseu, known as the "city of roundabouts". And to understand people's perceptions about the impact of roundabouts on the roads in their city. We also want to find out whether roundabouts contribute to reducing accidents and their severity in the specific context of the city. We analyzed the road accidents that occurred in the city of Viseu during a certain period, how many of them occurred at roundabouts and how serious they were for the road users. This case study, using a methodology based on road accident statistics in Viseu and fieldwork with online surveys, aims to understand the real impact of roundabouts on accidents in urban areas. It also aims to understand the opinions and perceptions of people who use these traffic calming measures daily, so than we can present contributions to some improvements. Roundabouts may be more effective as traffic calming measures than other road junctions. And they may contribute to a reduction in the number of accidents in urban areas and, above all, to a reduction in the severity of accidents.
