Abstract(s)
(Social and emotional loneliness scale for adults) e Escala de Depressão Geriátrica (GDS-
Aging and all the demographic changes present in our society pose major intervention challenges for institutions such as the GNR, which designs social measures to help meet the needs of elderly people in situations of loneliness and social isolation, to keep them safe. and combat loneliness. This study's main objective is to investigate loneliness in the elderly in the municipality of Baião, who participate in the GNR support program aimed at people over 65 years of age. The aim is to understand the various manifestations of loneliness in this age group, identify the emotional and social challenges they face due to loneliness and isolation, and map the needs of these elderly people together with the community support resources available to meet them. 20 elderly people identified as part of the GNR 65 years old program - “elderly people in safety” were interviewed and the surveys were carried out by the researcher herself on a non-probabilistic sample by quotas, according to gender (M, F) and age group (65 and more years), during visits to the homes of elderly people carried out in the company of GNR soldiers. In addition to the sociodemographic characterization of the population, the following scales were used: UCLA Loneliness Scale (UCLA – UCLA Loneliness Scale); SELSA-S Loneliness Scale (Social and emotional loneliness scale for adults) and Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS-15). An interview was carried out with the GNR soldier responsible for supporting elderly people in the municipality for 65 years to better understand the main needs of these elderly people, the most deep-rooted problems and intervention proposals for this population, in order to provide a healthy aging process. The study demonstrated that the elderly in the municipality of Baião, supported under the GNR program, have a moderate degree of loneliness. Many with families, however, do not find in them the support and support that is crucial to meeting their needs and promoting their well- being, and the fact that they live in a rural environment and far from large population centers sometimes causes a obstacle to the satisfaction of their basic needs, often ending up developing disorders and illnesses inherent to the very condition of isolation and loneliness, as we have seen from the data collected that indicate that the greater the feeling of loneliness, the greater the depressive symptoms.
