Abstract(s)
Distributed operations can be seen as a complement of the doctrine of the Maneuver Warfare. This maneuvered approach instigates the victory through the interruption of the enemy cycle of decision and maneuver. Distributed Operations describe an evoluting concept that aims to maximize the capacity of the commander in employing tactical units in depth and range in the battlefield, in order to reach a favorable outcome. Those units will enjoy the advantage of being disperse in the battle space since it will reduce their vulnerability to enemy observation and fire, however although being small units, they will have a great combat power, with great capacity in locating and destroying the enemy. The present master's thesis has the intent of exploring if the concept of Distributed Operations can be suitable for operations in urbanized terrains, comparing and analysing results from different simulations, achieved through the software Map Aware Non-uniform Automata, between a Traditional Combat Group, and a Combat Group operating according to the concept of Distributed Operations. The importance of this master's thesis is based on the evaluation of the adjustment of the doctrine of the Portuguese Marines in the execution of this type of operations, thus contributing to the reemployment of the Marine Forces in the theaters of operations.
